Event Details

Have you ever considered running your own business?  Do you have the leadership ability to hire and manage employees, the attention to detail to craft a well-researched business plan, and the determination to follow it through to ensure success?  If you answered yes to these questions, then you should attend this event.

At this event, five workshops will be offered on critical business topics such as government contracting, franchising, financing, sales techniques, and networking. You'll have the chance to network with existing business owners and speak with resource providers who will provide free business counseling to help you realize your dreams.   Additionally, you'll learn about the programs the SBA has to encourage veterans to start a business.

All active-duty servicemembers, veterans, Reservists and National Guardsmen, as well as the spouses of any of these groups, are invited to attend this event, absolutely free of charge.

For event questions, please contact Doug Dare, Business Development Specialist, at (714) 560-7467, or via email at douglas.dare@sba.gov

Here's a listing of the workshops we have planned for the event:

Blair Nicol of Fran-Net will present a workshop on Franchising.  Franchising can be an excellent option for someone leaving the military, who might have significant leadership experience but lack a specific business background.  At this workshop, Blair will teach you how to find the right franchise for you, how much money it takes, and what the trends are in this sector of the economy.

Leila Mozaffari, Director of the Orange County Small Business Development Center, will host a workshop on government contracting.  This session is meant to be an overview of government contracting and will focus on where to go to find out about contracting opportunities, registering to do business with the Federal government, and certification programs that can help make your company more competetive.

Carl Woodard, Chapter Chair of Orange County SCORE will present a workshop titled Sales Techniques That Work.  Carl will teach you techniques to help convince a buyer that's sitting on the fence to consider your product or service.  He has over 30 years of sales and marketing experience; attend his class and benefit from his insight & expertise.

Doug Dare, Business Development Specialist at the Santa Ana District SBA Office, will host a workshop on Access to Capital.  At his workshop, Doug will teach you about the different types of financing available, and in particular, government guaranteed lending to small business owners.  At his workshop, you will learn what you need to get financed and be offered some helpful tips to make your visit to the loan officer successful.

Robin Noah of Orange County SCORE will present "Networking - A Critical Skill".  Regardless of whether you're going into business for yourself or you just work for one, networking is a vital skill if you're going to develop a business.  Come to Robin's workshop to learn how to make yourself, and your business, more memorable.
